Correlation between Destructive and Non-Destructive Measurements of Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) Fruit during Maturation

چکیده

A relatively new, non-destructive, method for the assessment of optimal blueberry fruit maturity directly on plant uses a DA-meter (delta absorbance) to measure chlorophyll absorbance (IAD). Here, ‘Aurora’ quality parameters (peel color, firmness), chemical composition (individual sugars, organic acids and phenolics) relative expression anthocyanidin synthase (ANS) genes were examined at four different stages (immature, light purple, darker fully ripe). All observed changed significantly during ripening sometimes exhibited high correlation with IAD values, as R2 values ranged between 0.61 0.97. Peel lightness (L*), chroma (C*), firmness decreased ripening, while sugar/organic acid ratio, total phenolics ANS increased. The current study is first determine using evaluate their most commonly used ripe fruit, ANS.

Chemical composition of selected cultivars of highbush blueberry fruit (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

The purpose of the study was to compare basic fruit chemical composition of four highbush blueberry cultivars: ‘Spartan’, ‘Bluecrop’, ‘Jersey’ and ‘Blueray’. The plants were grown on plantation near Szczecin in the years 2001 – 2003. Basic chemical composition of fruit including total ash, crude fibre, total nitrogen, soluble solids, titratable acidity, dry weight and total polyphenol content w...

Effect of Pullulan Coating on Postharvest Quality and Shelf-Life of Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

Fruits form an important part of a healthy human diet as they contain many ingredients with proven pro-health effects such as vitamins, phenolic compounds, organic acids, fiber, and minerals. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effect of pullulan coating on the quality and shelf life of highbush blueberry during storage. General appearance, weight loss, dry matter, soluble solid conten...

Correlation between sensory and instrumental measurements of standard and crisp-texture southern highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L. interspecific hybrids)

BACKGROUND Fruit texture is a primary selection trait in southern highbush blueberry (SHB) breeding to increase fresh fruit postharvest quality and consumer acceptance. A novel crisp fruit texture has recently been identified among SHB germplasm. In this study, we developed a common set of descriptors that align sensory evaluation of blueberry fruit texture with instrumental measures that could...

Processing and Storage Effects on Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) Polyphenolics

Blueberries are commonly consumed in processed forms, but limited information is available on how different processing methods and storage of processed products impact the polyphenolic content of the fruit. In this study, we determined how canning, puréeing and juicing of blueberries, as well as storage of processed products at 25°C, influenced the retention of chlorogenic acid, total flavonols...

Changes in Anthocyanins and Polyphenolics During Juice Processing of Highbush Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

Frozen blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) were processed into juice and concentrate, and the changes in anthocyanin pigments and polyphenolics (cinnamates, procyanidins, flavonol glycosides) were monitored. While juice yield was 83%, only 32% of the anthocyanins were recovered in single-strength juice. Flavonol, procyanidin and chlorogenic acid recoveries in juice were 35%, 43%, and 53%, res...
